Setting goals
The video talks about Kanye West who wants to play in the NBA, this thought process, while viewed as impossible is then related back to several different instances in history.
It looks at Gunder Hagg who in 1945 broke the world record for the fastest mile, running it in 4minutes and 1.2 seconds. Before that time everyone believed 4 minutes was the limit for a human to run, and the feat was not possible, Roger Bannister who was a medical student at the time believed otherwise. Roger Banister knew there was no brick wall. And on May 6th 1954 that barrier was broken, with an overconfident Roger running it under 4 minutes, with a time of 3:59.4.
With his feat done, others were inspired and just shy of 2 months later 22 other people have broken Roger's time. This shows us that there was never actually any physical limitation at all!
The first office of amazon.com
Then the video looks at the first office of amazon.com, in a very small, cramped, untidy space. It then moves on to a minecraft clip, and then ends with the Amazon lettering still sprayed on the wall behind the desk space.
Bill Gates - An exampe of Luck + Hard work?
The story of Bill Gates is very interesting, and the video looks at whether his success was down to a combination of hard work and luck.
When Bill was 12, his parents sent him to a private school by the name of "Lakeside", 1 year later that school gains access to what was one of the only computers in the world!
Bill and his class mate Paul Allen would then begin experimenting with writing code. However their parents at the time discouraged it as they thought that they would be better off pursuing something real in the world! They would go onto drop out of college, but by that time Microsoft had signed a contract with IBM where they were tasked to create the operating system. This resulted in the company becoming a world wide success! Today Bill Gates has a net worth of $115.8 Billion.
One percent of his money is 500x the average person will make throughout their entire lifetime. From 20 to 30 years old him and Paul didn't take a weekend off!
Quinton Tarrentino - Success after failure
This is an example of a point that some people may struggle with as an artist. Despite talent, you still need to work hard to make it. If you are going to give up at year 4/5 you never give yourself a chance to succeed. This is why people struggle to believe. But a delusional mindset can carry you and protect you when you need to develop talent!
Quinton would go on to say he had 8 years where nothing worked out... and then it all came over night!
